Seems to be quite a merry-go-round!  The police are pleased to be able to off-load the once-stolen-and-not-reclaimed bikes to Re:CycleSimon’s happy to make sure they’re road-worthy,  then hires them out.  Visitors, and some locals like to use the bikes, and generally bring them back, but Inspector Force usually reacquires those that ‘disappear’ for longer.

  • Maybe it’s down to the warmer weather;

But for whatever reason, the people of Poppleton are getting on their bikes!

Post hoc ergo propter hoc

by 3arn0wl

When the Mayor of Poppleton cut the ribbon on Simon’s new ventureRe:Cycle – he had no idea how it would take off:

  • Emily Appleby brought in her unicycle and exchanged it for a bike trailer;

How Will coveted that pedalo. He’ll need some stabilizers though if he’s planning to attach the propeller to his glider!

Four firsts

by 3arn0wl

Simon took Cedric for a cruise on La Belle this morning.  It’s the first time his beagle’s been on water.

Hezekiah Pratt premièred his new work,  Hedges Concerto,  @ Chorley station during rushower. It’s a Concerto Gross-o, for kazoo, panpipes and didgeridoo.  Most commuters blithely ignored the historic event, though a few booed it.

Hogwatch have reported the first sightings of Erin Aceidae and her friends using the tunnel those soft vergers excavated last year.

And Will’s been up at the trig point way above Winskill:  the first opportunity he’s had to test the balsa wood glider he’s made.

Pink to frazzled, but not well done

by 3arn0wl

Lord Rupert’s bubble ducked.  Twice.

He’d just agreed to let Michelle Biskup’s bank come for a Murder Mystery weekend.

Had he checked the diary he would have noticed that there was a wedding party already booked in.

And then there’s the ‘Open your place up for free’ event that takes place each year.  There’ll be hoards of people everywhere!  He shouldn’t moan about that of course – the tea shop will do well,  and it’s a very good advert for the place.

But he was going to be running around like a mad marshal!  It was going to be murder!

Stake π & peace

by 3arn0wl

Tim Panini had been to a very interesting Gardener’s Question Time @ Poppleton Park yesterday.  He’d got all fired up about hanging baskets and pots and raised beds and borders,  and went forthwith to the garden centre to get everything he needed.

Simon had heard that it was National Pi Day.  He decided to have a π and a pint at the Flying Pig,  and see what was going on there.

And Prue Vidor nipped up to Snodding Hall to borrow one of Lord Rupert’s vests. She intends to wear it tomorrow.  Just in case.

Fair Trade πs

by 3arn0wl

Unaware that it was British Pie Week, Simon was at the Farmers’ Market, where he hoped to meat a ………..  He ended up buying a very tasty Pork Pie.

Minnie Driver was famished.  She’d been stood in the cold all morning trying to shift her four cheeses. And with all those wonderful smells wafting over from that gourmet van!  Sheer torture.  In the end she caved into a Cornish pasty.

Fr. James Dean of St. Nick’s was also unaware that it was Fairtrade Fortnight, but nevertheless he enjoyed a cup of Fair Trade tea with a tart he’d picked up in Upper Snodding.

Midnight reveries

by 3arn0wl

Perhaps the last night of the half term holiday was not the best time for a sleepover,  but Grace Merryweather and Rose Wood had a brilliant time!  They told stories and listened to music,  they danced and sang and talked about their god: Justin Bieber. They baked chocolate coconut squares, and then scoffed them with crisps at midnight.  And they made garlands of paper flowers,  with which they adorned each other.

Meanwhile, having heard some highly disturbing noises whilst walking in the Estate’s arboretum, Simon shinned up a bael tree,  where he stayed until dawn,  picking off the leaves and praying for salvation.
