New directions

by 3arn0wl

Chorley University undergraduate, Ali Moany, is studying for the bar.  She decided to make the most of the glorious weather and took the Blue Riband along the recently completed extension to Upper Snodding. From there she walked up to the trig point way above Winskill with her tablet and spent the day reading.

Rosie Barriclough’s decree absolute plopped through the door,  somewhat ironically.  She went for a walk to clear her mixed emotions.

And Percy, weighed down by the judgement he’d been considering for some time, decided to don his Chauhan’s boots and amble up the hill for some fresh air.

Egg-sighting

by 3arn0wl

In the hiatus of Easter Saturday, vendors are hoping to separate punters from their hard-earned.

As La Belle glides up and down the Burbling offering lunch and afternoon tea, with the lure of an Easter Bunny crèche, the Blue Riband chugs along the Biscuit Line to find a story telling Paddington Bear at Tooting Halt.

There’s a Treasure Hunt in Poppleton Park, where teams are encouraged to find the ‘golden eggs’.

Lord Rupert’s hosting an egg-decorating workshop, led by Bill Wainwright and Antonín Biskup. The W.I. are there too, selling their cakes and preserves.

And Gawthrop Farm’s open to visitors – children love to pet the animals of course, and there’s always a chance of seeing a lambing. With egg tossing and egg rolling games and a hayride on offer, it’s a good job there’s some Scrum-P available for the adults.

The train is a coming

by 3arn0wl

Riding a wave footplate of interest and enthusiasm for the project, the BLAGGERS are delighted to announce that the next phase of the restoration of the Biscuit Line – the eight mile stretch between Tooting and Lower Snodding – is to begin.

“Despite the economic climate, funding is flooding in from users, from donations, from sponsors and from grants,” said chairman of the Biscuit Line, Roger Moore, “And this phase should cost less even though this stretch is longer.”

Phil Anyould has submitted his estimate of the cost of the works and is confident of securing the contract.

Asked what he thought about he Blue Riband coming to Lower Snodding again, Lord Rupert said: “I’m chuffed to bits!”

Juan Mann noticed that the hawthorn had joined the daffodils in delivering their Springtime splendour.

Alistair Crookes has been keeping watch over his flock by night,  and taking delivery of the first lambs of the season.

Rosie Barriclough’s been out delivering cards, letters and packages.  There’s a big one for Jenny Darling. 😉

Mrs. M.P. Robinson’s Hedge Fund has been significantly augmented with the arrival of six million trees to plant.

And the Dew Drop Inn is once again fully booked, welcoming guests for a comfortable stay.   The region is teeming with visitors eager to see the standing stones,  the castle,  the Biscuit Line and Lord Rupert’s Pile.

A full head of steam

by 3arn0wl

Following her success in organising the Saturnalia ShindigSally from the Bourbon line had been tasked to think up some February Fun on the Blue Riband.

She came up with:

  • a Thomas the Tank Engine Day,  for the toddlers with their grandparents;
  • a Hogwarts Express Day,  for teenagers going back to boarding school and
  • a Railway Children Day,  for those still cradling a crush on Jenny Agutter.

But today’s was the easiest of all to organise,  ‘cus everyone fancies a ride on Valentine’s Day. 😉

god what a night!

by 3arn0wl

Now then. Not many companies have their work’s Christmas do on a steam train, but then again, not many MDs have a folly as large as a steam train and a five-mile stretch of track to have a work’s do on.

But this year, Roger Moore was proud to stand on the foot-plate and tootle along to Tooting for a bit of festive fun.

Sally, from the Bourbon line,  was put in charge!  Of course there was food, there was booze, and everyone was in colourful costume and silly hats. And there was music and dancing and reveries aplenty until late into the evening:  the fetters of the formal boss-worker relationship were unbound, at least for one night.

And although they’d had a good laugh at the MD‘s expense all night, he still gave them each their Christmas bonus!

…as we ride on the footplate there and back again.

by 3arn0wl

Well!  Father Christmas has come three weeks early,  and delivered the best gift of all for two ‘boys’ old enough to know better!

You couldn’t’ve prised Roger Moore or Lord Rupert away from the Blue Riband and the Biscuit Line for love nor money yesterday!  Even with a Christmas Market to organise,  and the peak period for selling biscuits approaching.

Up and down the five mile stretch from Chorley to Tooting they went – taking it in turns to be driver and fireman – and pasted on their faces was a grin wide enough to illuminate the track!

So it seems that the Biscuit Line is up and running – ahead of schedule. I’m sure there’ll be lots of people wanting a ride. 😉
