The very dead of winter

by 3arn0wl

Santa isn’t the only one who’s busy this time of year.

Paul Bearer goes from grieving household to grieving household applying balm with his reassuring dignity.

Saddest of all, of course, are those times when the deceased has outlived the family they had, when there are few to care, never mind to mourn.

Oliver Bath’s neighbours hadn’t seen him for a while, and having been unable to raise a response by rapping on the door, had forced entry.

They found him lying in a bed, fully clothed in gloves and scarf.

Ironically, under his bed, they found dozens of boxes stuffed with bank notes, and a letter that asked the finder to pass the money onto the emergency services.
