Poppleton Marathon

by 3arn0wl

The weather was perfect for it:  not too hot, but dry and still.

People had turned out in their hundreds.  Most of them wearing their smart trainers.

Not all of them were serious runners of course:  you could tell that by the stupid costumes some of them had chosen to wear:

  • the troop of Gurkhas, in full uniform, running in their boots with their heavy rucksacks on their backs.
  • a ten-pin of rather large ladies, all supporting a diabetes charity

and there was even

  • a waddle of ‘nuns’, going for it

And to think they were all doing it for the prize of a crusty old chocolate bar from 1972, that the mayor had found in the glove compartment of his limo.
