An Installation

The Wednesday evening bell-ringing practice at St. Nick’s was augmented last night, as teams of ringers from around the region descended on Poppleton, for a Fauré into experimental music.  It seems that Poppleton is unusual in that all its towers are tuned to A flat,  making it ideal for a world premier of Oranges and Lemons by local composer Hezekiah Pratt.

The Pedal of a Tenor and the intricate weaving of four new sets of changes in crab canon,  all integrated to form a musical whole.

“It’s very exciting to be a part of such an exciting project as this,” Tom Bell (26) enthused in his tank top and sandals. “I’ve never been involved in anything like this before,” he beamed.

Passers-by had various reactions to the resulting cacophony – none particularly positive.  Still, the teams seemed to enjoy it,  and repaired to the Dew Drop Inn in much satisfaction for refreshment.
